Oprah Gets Duped
The power of the "business machine" known as 'Harpo' has been proven time and time again. When the machine's leader speaks, it seems as though the world listens. When Oprah said that she doesn't trust beef, the cattle industry took major losses and ranchers filed suit (Oprah was found not-liable)... When Oprah tells her audience about her "Favorite Things" the products fly off of the shelf... When Oprah encouraged her viewers to buy a small rubber bracelet for $1 each to support cancer research (a cause that I am down for 100%) that day alone $900,000 dollars was raised...
So when Oprah crowned James Frey as the latest winner of the "book club lotto", as usual, millions of people marched to their local bookstore/coffee shop and forked over the cash.
Well now it seems as though Oprah has been, in her words "duped"... She feels "embarrassed and disappointed." Many people accept Oprah's words as gospel. R.Kelly is not the only Pied Piper in Chicago!!! Many of my friends quote Oprah like scholars quote Aristotle.
Do you feel that we blindly follow the words of Oprah without questioning? Why or why not?

Media and the world are reflections of each other. Media is life and life is the media. Some choice to immitate what is constantly fed to them on a daily basis. Media has influenced various cultures all the way down to how a person 'portrays' themselves in their everyday existance. I dont believe Oprah rules the world. She is a influential person in her own right amongst the masses that follow her 'religiously', but I would never deem her as powerful.Yes, when Oprah speaks the vast majority listens. I compare Oprah and the percentage of society that blindly follows her as ignorant and uneducated. When I say ignorant, because you are stupid enough to believe that everything this women says is gospel. Uneducated because no one ever tries to research to gain an understanding of their own from Oprah tells them on a everyday basis. You must first know it for yourself, before you allow others to corrupt, influence, or 'reorganize' your thinking. Oprah is what she is and her fame has been established through convincing the masses that what she says has validity. I commend her for being a successful african american, but to me she needs to do her research a lot more or otherwise, she will always be "embarrassed" and hood winked by the next 'average Joe' to say his life events were real. With all the money she has, you would think common sense would be a virtue.....RESEARCH....you would be amazed what you find!!!.....thats just my opinion.
